1 year of UltraSense: Consortium meets in Wroclaw to plan next steps

On Thursday, October 16th 2025, UltraSense consortium met for the M14 meeting, marking the 1-year anniversary of the project. All project partners were represented, with 21 participants during the meeting. The meeting was hosted by partner XTPL in their new offices in Wroclaw Business Garden, where state of the art facilities and laboratories enable to high-quality work of the company’s specialists.

The day started with an External Advisory Board (EAB) meeting. The EAB unites external experts with relevant complimentary expertise to the consortium, and serves to support in validating project progress and provide inputs for the future strategy planning. The consortium provided an overview of the project’s main objectives and expected impacts, as well as highlights from the first year of project implementation. Present EAB members provided valuable feedback and insights, which will guide further activities in the project.

After a short break, consortium partners discussed more in detail the technical developments in the different work packages throughout the last months, and lots of troubleshooting for current and upcoming technical challenges took place. This sets the project on a promising trajectory to achieve its objectives. In the evening, a working dinner provided opportunity to strengthen the collaboration in a more informal setting.

The UltraSense device – a wearable chest strap – will consist of 3 sensor compartments which will monitor different biomarkers in the sweat, as well as percentage of fat/water/mass and other parameters which reflect the health status of individuals. Many processes and materials will be combined to make this happen, e.g. metallic inks, laser processes to help develop and manufacture devices on flexible electronics. Parallel development and successful integration will be crucial.

The first year of the project was mainly dominated by the definition of specifications and requirements for the individual compartments and integrated device, which has now been finalised. During the upcoming 2nd year of the project, the focus is on the technical development, with the aim to increase TRL of materials and process (fabrication, integrations etc). The 3rd and 4th year of the project will then mainly focus on validation.

Thank you to XTPL for hosting us in Wroclaw, and all the partners for their active participation and fruitful collaboration during the meeting!
