UltraSense Researchers Featured in AMIRES’ #AMIgender Initiative
As part of its #AMIgender initiative and Sustainable Development Goals campaign, AMIRES has highlighted several women researchers contributing to UltraSense and advancing innovative health monitoring technologies.
The feature, published by AMIRES within its series on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), explores how UltraSense contributes to SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being through the development of innovative technologies for continuous and non-invasive health monitoring. The article showcases the project’s vision of combining ultrasound, bioimpedance and graphene-based biosensors into a flexible wearable platform designed to support more personalised and accessible healthcare.

The initiative also highlights the researchers driving these developments across the Consortium. Featured scientists include:
- Ioanna Zergioti (NTUA), project coordinator and expert in laser technologies
- Mariane Chiara (NTUA), expertise in laser induced forward transfer of advanced materials and characterization of biosensors
- Amaia Zurutuza and Amaia Rebollo (Graphenea), leading advances in graphene-enabled biosensors
- Tuire Salonurmi (University of Oulu), supporting the project’s work on health monitoring and validation activities
- María-José Bañuls Polo (UPV), contributing expertise in biosensor development and biomarker analysis
By bringing together expertise in advanced materials, sensing technologies and healthcare innovation, these researchers contribute to the development of solutions that aim to support the early detection and management of obesity and metabolic disorders. Their work demonstrates how interdisciplinary collaboration can help address major societal and healthcare challenges through science and technology.
Beyond the technological achievements, the feature also recognises the important role of women researchers in European research and innovation projects. Showcasing the people behind the science helps inspire future generations of scientists and highlights the diverse expertise required to transform research into real-world impact.
The UltraSense consortium thanks AMIRES for recognising the contributions of its researchers and for highlighting the project’s role in advancing innovative technologies that support healthier lives and well-being.
